Milton C. Sernett, PhD, is professor of African American Studies and History, and is adjunct professor of religion at Syracuse University. He is the author of Abolition's Axe; Beriah Green, Oneida Institute and the Black Freedom Struggle; Black Religion and American Evangelicalism; White Protestants, Plantation Missions and the Flowering of Negro Christianity - 1787-1865; and Bound for the Promised Land, African American Religion and the Great Migration. He is the editor of African American Religious History, a Documentary History.
